Annalisa Bernard is a seasoned Trial Attorney with over 15 years of experience in the District, Juvenile, Family, and Circuit Courts, where she has handled all levels of criminal cases from traffic matters to complex felony-level offenses. With her extensive experience in both bench and jury trials, Annalisa will guide you through all stages of your case with zealous advocacy, integrity, and compassion.
Annalisa was born and raised on the island of Maui. She graduated from Seabury Hall in 1995, then earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Seattle University, graduating cum laude.
In 2004, Annalisa received her Juris Doctor from the University of Hawaii at Manoa William S. Richardson School of Law. Following her graduation from Law School, Annalisa clerked in the Circuit Court of the First Circuit for the Honorable Derrick H.M. Chan and the Honorable Michael A. Town.
In 2005 Annalisa joined the State of Hawaii Office of the Public Defender where she served as a Deputy Public Defender for over ten years on both Oahu and Maui. While at the Public Defender’s office, Annalisa effectively represented thousands of clients charged with criminal offenses, negotiated thousands of plea agreements to the benefit of her clients, and passionately represented her clients in countless trials, resulting in dismissals, acquittals, and Not Guilty verdicts in front of both Judges and Juries.
In 2015, Annalisa accepted a position as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the County of Maui where she worked as a Career Criminal Trial Deputy until joining Wong-Leong Cuccia in 2021. As a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, Annalisa investigated, charged, and prosecuted all levels of criminal offenses including DUIs, Domestic Abuse, Property Crimes, Drug Cases, Negligent Homicides, and Violent Assaults.
Annalisa’s strong, successful trial background as both a Defense Attorney and Prosecutor gives her an advantage over other criminal litigators. Her experience on both sides of the system, enable her to utilize her knowledge and skill to ensure that she will zealously, and compassionately advocate for the best possible outcome for your case.
